The Senate voted tonight by unanimous consent to confirm the Brookings Institution's Ivo Daalder
as the U.S. Ambassador to NATO. Swearing in will be on Friday, May 15. The Netherlands-born Daalder served as a director for European affairs in the Clinton-era NSC and more recently, as an advisor to the Obama-Biden transition and the lead nonproliferation advisor to the Obama campaign. Daalder recently co-authored with I.M. Destler a book on the National Security Council, In the Shadow of the Oval Office
, and has published widely on non-proliferation and transatlantic security issues
, including on the global role of Nato.
